NobleEndeavours

Noble Endeavours by Bernard Noble.

This book is mainly concerned with the flying careers of members of three generations in one family. It covers a period of sixty years starting in 1936. The book gives a detailed picture of the flying activities of those parts of the RAF with which they were involved. Between them they flew over one hundred different types of aircraft, details of many of these provided, together with descriptions of the various equipments and procedures used. It also gives an insight into the great technological advances in military aviation during the period. These are best exemplified by the fact that the first member dropped small bombs from a two-seat, open cockpit biplane in 1936, while the third used the Thermal Imaging Laser Designator (TIALD) during the Gulf War of 1991. The second member, who is the author of this book, completed two tours of test flying on fighter aircraft and transport types in the 1950's and 1960's respectively. In addition, the work carried out in various staff appointments during the second part of the period is covered in some detail.
